GIS Podcasts

In March 2020, when I began working at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I had an extra hour in my day because I didn’t have to commute. With this extra time, I began listening to podcasts during my longer after-work dog walks. It took me a while to find my very first podcast on GIS entitled A VerySpatial PodCast. It is still one of my favorites. Since then, I have found several more that I would like to share with you.

  • A VerySpatial PodCast — 700+ podcasts over 30 years and growing on a wide variety of GIS topics including news and events by Jesse Rouse, Sue Bergeron, Frank Lafone, and Barbara MacLennan. After listening to their lively discussions, you will get to know them by their first names.
  • Africa GeoConvo — A podcast about everything geospatial in Africa which began in December 2020 hosted by Emmanual Jolaiya and Omowonuola Akintola.
  • The MapScaping Podcast — Daniel O’Donohue introduces the listener to many GIS topics through one-on-one interviews.
  • Minds Behind Maps — Brought to you by Maxime Lenormand, this podcast is similar in format to The MapScaping Podcast (in fact, Mr. O’Donohue and Mr. Lenormand appear to be friends and colleagues) with one-on-one interviews that go a little longer (1 to 2.5 hours). Great for those longer dog walks.
  • On Point with Korem — I cannot remember how I found this podcast; the title only has a very subtle reference to GIS. These podcasts relate more to “where geospatial technology meets business” and provides me with a different perspective that I welcome.
  • Please stay tuned for a growing list. Please email me if you would like to share a GIS podcast.
